SANTO DOMINGO. – The General Directorate of Migration has ordered a thorough investigation into a complaint circulating on various social networks about the use of a bus from that institution in the municipality of Comendador de Elías Piña to transport an alleged Haitian national who sells merchandise at a stand that is set up in the area where the binational market operates.

Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, ARD, reported that it was indeed proven that the bus that appears in the video belongs to the DGM, so he ordered a thorough investigation in this regard, to drastically sanction those responsible for this dishonest and illegal action.

The management confirmed that the vehicle is used on the route to transport irregular immigrants from the Haina Reception Center to Elías Piña and that its driver was caught in flagrant violation of the rules and procedures that apply to the service he is called to perform. “We reiterate to the country our commitment to strengthening immigration management in the Dominican Republic, that we will not allow the improper use of DGM resources, nor any type of illicit action or performance or excesses by the personnel working in the institution,” reiterated Vice Admiral Lee Ballester, ARD. He also noted: “We will remain firm in our purpose of promoting adherence to the standards of morality and ethics that we have upheld and we urge our personnel to comply with these in a transparent manner, respecting human rights and the dignity of people.”
