Venancio Alcántara, Director of Migration is the current president pro tempore of the OCAM
on behalf of the Dominican Republic; in the regional conclave the election will be made and
delivery of the pro tempore presidency of the OCAM.
Santo Domingo, RD.- The Dominican Republic will host this coming Monday the “Process
Regional Advisory Committee on Migration” that will take place in the country, in Bávaro-Punta
Cana, from the 12th to the 13th of the current month between the Immigration Directors of various countries of the
Latin America and the Caribbean, in the Americas, within the framework of the OCAM conclave.
The multilateral event has as its objective, through the Central American Commission of
Migration Directors (OCAM) address the migration issue in the region and coordination
of policies in three fundamental axes: migration, human rights and development; between the
that are intended to foster friendship and cooperation ties for the security, protection,
surveillance, prevention, modernization of border management and strengthening,
integrated controls, and technological improvements.
Likewise, it plans to review existing legislation such as legal framework, agreements
international and political mechanisms to achieve stability of method, regularization of
migration programs, to strengthen the fight against migrant smuggling.
In this sense, the General Director of Migration, and pro tempore president of the organization,
Venancio Alcántara, stressed that the event serves as a regional mechanism to evaluate the
migratory actions implemented by member countries, and in the special case of the
Dominican Republic, assured that they will have the opportunity to once again demonstrate the
correct application of the laws and regulations implemented by the country, in compliance with the
Fundamental axes of the organization, such as application of protocols, respect for rights
humans and humane treatment.
I also specify that the immigration procedures in the country are used under strict
mandate and principles of not committing excessive force, nor committing violations against any
irregular foreigner regardless of their nationality, by express order of President Luis
Abinader.
The Central American Commission of Migration Directors (OCAM)- (was created in October
of 1990, in San José, Costa Rica, whose objective is to have a regional mechanism of
coordination, consultation and consultation for the treatment of the migratory phenomenon, which
arises within the OCAM.
The OCAM is made up of Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras,
Nicaragua, Guatemala, Panama and Belize. In the regional conclave the election and delivery will be made
