DAJABÓN.- The General Directorate of Immigration (DGM) detained 36 undocumented Haitians whom it caught hiding in two vehicles whose drivers abandoned them and fled upon noticing the presence of interdiction agents.
The group of illegal immigrants were in two jeeps, a 2015 Toyota Hilander with license plate G-484603, in which 22 people were hidden, and a 2013 Kia Sorento with license plate G-42564, in which 14 Haitian nationals were in illegal immigration status.
The DGM operation, led by immigration intelligence agents and coordinated with troops from the Dominican Republic Army’s 10th Battalion, took place on Santiago Rodríguez Street in the Benito Monción sector here.
The DGM reported that the detainees were treated with respect for their rights and dignity, and were cleared according to established protocols under national and international regulations, before being returned to their countries of origin.
