Santo Domingo, RD.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM), denied
categorically that several buses that were affected as a result of a fire in
Bávaro-Punta Cana last week belong to the institution, as has come to light
on social networks and some media.
He clarified that “We have received information that a video is circulating on social networks
of some buses on fire, spreading some people that these belong to
Migration and that it was an incident provoked by Haitian nationals in retaliation for the
repatriations; After analyzing the video and verifying the information, we conclude that
This fire occurred on December 28 at the facilities of the company
Monumental Transport, and the affected vehicles belong to said company,” he said.
A press release issued by the General Directorate of Communications of the
institution, attributed the false information to interested sectors that seek to misrepresent the
truth in relation to the actions that the institution has been implementing against the flow
irregular migration in the Dominican Republic, within the framework of an effective policy of
government of President Luis Abinader.
In this sense, the General Directorate of Migration indicated that it does not correspond to the
true the comments made by the journalist Consuelo Despradel through a
television program, where he affirms that eleven burned buses belong to
Migration, which according to the communicator had been burned by Haitians in
retaliation for immigration policies.
He also clarified that in that area the institution only has an interdiction unit and
that in daily operations they are supported by units of the National Police, the Army
Dominican and other military bodies.
The institution specified “So far it is well known that the registered fire
accidentally on December 28, it originated from the Monumental transport company, located on Calle Prolongación Avenida España, in the Hoyo de Friusa sector, Bávaro, so the information that circulates along with the video attributing these buses to Migration, It is entirely false” the institution reiterated.
He also indicated that at the time the information was confirmed by the Department of
Risk and Disaster Management of Verón Punta Cana (DGRD), where thank God no
people were injured, and where Public Health units, the Police
National and the Central Directorate of Tourism Police (Politur) in order to protect the
perimeter and initiate investigations into the incident.
