SANTO DOMINGO. The General Directorate of Immigration celebrated its 85 years this Sunday as the institution that applies the Dominican immigration policy and this Monday a mass of thanksgiving was held in the Cathedral of Santo Domingo or the Minor Basilica of Santa María de la Encarnación, a Eucharistic act officiated by Priest Nelson Clark.


The DGM was accompanied by officials and representatives of other allied institutions, including the General Directorate of Passports, the Armed Forces and the National Police, as well as the General Directorate of Border Development (DGDF), the National Directorate of Investigations (DNI). ), the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), General Directorate of Customs (DGA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX), the Directorate of State Retirements and Pensions (DGJP), the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (Pro Dominicana), the National Statistics Office (ONE), as well as other ministries, general directorates and institutes, among others.


The general director of Immigration, Venancio Alcántara, specified in his speech during the religious ceremony some of the achievements and changes that he has made during his administration.


Which I emphasize in these 8 decades and five years of existence, important changes have been made, especially in the last 96 months where multiple improvements have been applied, among them the implementation of the E-Ticket and autogate that facilitates the entry of those who They come to the Dominican Republic.


Other achievements that Migration has experienced is the purchase of new vehicles for interdiction operations with GPS that are constantly monitored to follow up on the work of immigration agents at the scene of the actions established by law

“During these 8 decades, this institution has faced various challenges and changes in the national and international migration landscape. However, through the commitment, dedication and hard work of our team, we have managed to adapt and continue walking with the mission of guaranteeing security, order and respect for the human rights of all people who transit our borders., having as a priority safeguarding our sovereignty,” said Venancio Alcántara.


The Director of Immigration also added that it is “an honor to be here today to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the General Directorate of Immigration. On behalf of all of us who are part of this institution, I want to extend the warmest welcome to this very special event. On this day we commemorate and reflect on the achievements, challenges and contributions that our Management has made throughout these 85 years in service to our country and our migrant community.”
