PRESS RELEASE

Migration has a new online service for an extension of stay for tourists

The General Directorate of Migration (DGM ), in an effort to improve the services it offers to its users, provided, starting in February, the facility to request online the extension of stay for foreign tourists who intend to extend their stay beyond of the period authorized by immigration control when entering the country.

To apply for this new service online, foreigners must enter the institution’s website www.migracion.com.gob , complete the application form , and send scanned documents such as a copy of the passport, air or sea ticket from return, and a copy of the stamp of last entry into the country.

How to request an extension of stay online

When entering the DGM website , the user must access the box indicating the request for an extension of stay for tourists , enter their email address and passport number , with these data the system will generate an access code that will be sent to the email address entered by the user.

With this code on the DGM website , you will be redirected to the application form that must be completed online, attached with the scanned copies of the required documents.   These will be verified by the Department of Immigration Control and after their analysis, they will send a notification to the user via email with the approval or not of the application in an estimated time of 24 to 48 hours.

The DGM clarifies that the extension of stay does not exempt the foreigner from paying for the time exceeded in national territory as established by law upon leaving the country.

The new online service represents saving time and money by avoiding commuting and waiting for these procedures. Other services in the area of immigration that are carried out online are: the appointment system, request or renewal of permits and residences, requests for loss, permission to leave minors, among  others.
