PUERTO PLATA.- Interdiction agents from the General Directorate of Immigration (DGM) detained 89 Haitians caught in this tourist destination without the corresponding legal documentation.
The migration flow control operation covered the municipalities of San Felipe, Imbert, Montellano, and Sosúa. Sixty-eight men and 21 women were arrested, and three motorcycles carrying some of the undocumented immigrants were also seized.
The DGM agents’ operations were carried out in coordination with members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and National Police, and were carried out with respect for human rights and the dignity of immigrants, in compliance with national legal norms and international precepts on the matter.
All detainees, without risking their physical and mental integrity, were transferred to the Haina detention center to be individually registered, biometrically validated, and evaluated according to established protocols.
The DGM’s action is part of strengthening its efforts to control migration flows, within the framework of Law 285-04, to ensure that all citizens, regardless of their origin, are properly documented and registered, thereby safeguarding national security and sovereignty.
