The DGM detains 1,519 Haitian nationals and deports another 1,339 illegally.

SANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detained 1,519 Haitian nationals in irregular immigration status during operations deployed yesterday throughout the country to control the flow of undocumented foreigners.

The locations where the arrests were made were Greater Santo Domingo and the National District (168); Azua (Los Pilones) (27), Santiago (135), La Vega (57), Zona Este (200), Barahona (29), Montecristi (21) and Puerto Plata (47). In addition to these figures, 113 were detained by the Specialized Corps for Border Security (CESFRONT), 644 by the Dominican Republic Army and 78 by the National Police.

The DGM also repatriated 1,339 Haitian nationals to their places of origin yesterday, after taking their biometric data and reviewing them in accordance with due process. These individuals were handed over to the neighboring country’s immigration authorities in Dajabón (151 individuals), Elías Piña (1,008), Jimaní (125), and Pedernales (55).

Interdiction efforts are carried out with the active collaboration of the Dominican Army, the Dominican Navy, the Air Force, the Cesfront (Center for the Defense of the Dominican Republic), the National Police, the Ciutran (National Police), and the Digesett (Digest), among other agencies involved in national security.

The institution responsible for controlling migration flows and managing the presence of foreigners in Dominican territory stated that the operations are carried out in strict compliance with Law 285-04 and with respect for human rights and human dignity.

The DGM also warned that it will continue to comply with the directives of President Luis Abinader and the mandate of the nation’s Defense and Security Council to safeguard national security and sovereignty.
