The DGM deports 31,213 foreigners detained in irregular conditions

SANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Migration returned 31,213 foreigners of eight nationalities, especially from Haiti, detained in irregular conditions to their respective countries through 266 operations carried out in the country during the month of January.

As a result of the interdiction efforts, which represent more than eight each day, including holidays, 16,293 undocumented immigrants were deported and another 14,920 were repatriated, within the comprehensive strategy deployed by the DGM to reinforce security and order in the migratory flow.

Among those deported are two Mexicans, two Nigerians, one from Saint Lucia, one from Trinidad, one from Ghana, one from Nigeria, one from Canada and one from Venezuela. The other 31,204 are Haitians.

The interdiction operations were carried out in strict compliance with the protocols that ensure respect for Human Rights and the dignity of deportees. Immigration agents worked in coordination with members of the National Army, the Dominican Navy, the Air Force, the National Police, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Digesett and CIUTRAN.

The demarcation from which the most illegal aliens were deported was the Haina detention center, with 8,584; followed by Dajabón, with 5,380, and Santiago, with 2,329. Of those repatriated, 6,022 were through Elías Piña; 3,591 through Jimaní; 2,740 through Dajabón, and 2,567 through Pedernales.

The provinces where the most operations took place were Greater Santo Domingo, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, San Cristobal, Peravia, La Altagracia, Montecristi, San Pedro de Macoris, Espaillat, Monsignor Nouel, Santiago de los Caballeros, Barahona, Puerto Plata and Hato Mayor del Rey.

Also in El Seibo, San Jose de Ocoa, Montecristi, Dajabon, Valverde, Santiago Rodriguez, Elias Pine, San Juan, Pedernales, Barahona and Azua.

Last January, the DGM also dismantled networks dedicated to human trafficking and brought to justice 17 people accused of violating Law No. 137-03 on illegal migrant trafficking and human trafficking, and General Migration Law 285-04 and its Regulations.

The actions of the DGM are limited to the mandate of President Luis Abinader, to reduce the excess of migrant population in Dominican communities, with the aim of strengthening security, border surveillance and national sovereignty.
