The DGM detains 1,619 undocumented Haitians and deports another 1,091 in operations across the country.

SANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM), during the interdiction campaigns carried out yesterday in the country, apprehended 1,619 Haitian nationals in an irregular situation and repatriated 1,091 in the same situation.

The detainees were 347 in Greater Santo Domingo; 114 in Santiago de los Caballeros; 57 in La Vega; 39 in Mao/Santiago Rodríguez; 140 in the East Zone; 7 in Azua; 14 in Barahona; 39 in Puerto Plata; and 8 in Montecristi.

Likewise, the Dominican Army arrested 620, the CESFRONT arrested 197, and the National Police arrested 37. These efforts were coordinated with the DGM (General Directorate of General Investigation) and also included the participation of members of the Dominican Navy, the Air Force, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Ciutran Task Force, the Digesett (Digest of the Dominican Republic), and other state security agencies.

The institution responsible for the movement of foreigners in the Dominican Republic reported that the detainees were registered and validated using biometrics, vetted according to established rules, and then deported and handed over to the authorities of their country of origin. This repatriation took place through the binational border crossings of Elías Piña (570), Dajabón (293), Jimaní (133), and Pedernales (95).

The operations were carried out in accordance with the interdiction protocols established by the DGM, respecting human rights commitments and the dignity of individuals, adhering to national laws and values, and in compliance with the country’s international conventions.
