Repatriates another 720 people
The General Directorate of Immigration (DGM) detained 726 Haitian nationals without documentation proving their presence in Dominican territory during interdiction operations carried out yesterday in different parts of the country to strengthen public order and guarantee citizen security.
The agency responsible for managing and controlling migration flows also yesterday deported 720 Haitians in an irregular situation from the Haina Immigrant Detention Center.
The repatriated migrants were 552 men, 160 women, and two minors, who were taken to the Elías Piña border crossing and handed directly over to Haitian authorities.
INTERDICTIONS
The immigration interdiction campaigns took place in Friusa and its surrounding areas, Santiago, Mao, Azua, Constanza, Jarabacoa, Santo Domingo Norte, and Santo Domingo Este, and were coordinated with the National Army, the Dominican Navy, the Air Force, the Cesfront (Center for the Front), the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Digesett (Digest), and the Ciutran (Citran), among other security agencies.
In the Friusa area, 231 people with irregular immigration status were detained, bringing the total number apprehended in the first seven days of April to 1,259. In Santiago and Mao, 280 illegal immigrants were detained (190 men, 58 women, and 32 minors accompanying them); in Azua, 59; in Santo Domingo Norte and Santo Domingo Este, 79; and in Constanza and Jarabacoa, 262 illegal immigrants, of whom 180 were men, 51 were women, and 31 were minors accompanying the adults.
The affected foreigners, whose prerogatives and integrity were respected within the framework of international standards and the democratic procedural law in force in the country, were transferred to the detention centers (Haina, Benerito, Santiago, or Dajabón) closest to where they were detained. There, they were registered and cleared according to established protocols before being deported to their country of origin.
The DM’s work is governed by the provisions of Law 285-04, the mandate of the nation’s Defense and Security Council, and the directives of President Luis Abinader.
The purpose is to preserve a safe and fair immigration environment, to safeguard national security and sovereignty through safe and orderly work that contributes to the well-being of the population.
