SANTO DOMINGO .- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detained five Cuban nationals caught trying to reach the National District, coming from Haiti, and three Indian nationals who tried to enter the neighboring country illegally from Dominican territory and were returned through the Elías Piña binational gate.
Cubans Alieska Aguilera Díaz, Cristian Aguilera García, Cristopher González González, Ariday González Barata, and Diego Fernández Hernández were arrested in Dajabón by immigration interdiction agents as they boarded a bus headed to the capital city.
The institution that controls and regulates the entry, stay, and exit of foreigners in the country explained that the group was located in Cabo Rojo, Haiti, and entered Dominican territory illegally through the northern border. After their arrest, their immigration status was investigated, and they were then deported to their countries of origin.
For their part, Indian nationals Patel Param Phafulchandra, Patel Krish Ghanshyamhai and Patel Naitil Khodabhai arrived in the country regularly, through Las Américas Airport, but entered Haiti without legal permission, for which they were detained by the authorities of the neighboring nation and deported to the Dominican Republic, the country through which they had entered Haitian soil.
The DGM states that, in this regard, they were received and sent to the agency’s headquarters so that, before being deported, their immigration status was investigated for their various visits to the country, as well as for possible links to organized crime, as well as the suspected reason for using the southern border area to access the western side of the island. They were also subject to entry restrictions for violating Immigration Law 285-04 and its regulations.
