SANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reported that immigration operations continue to be carried out throughout the country and that yesterday, 1,318 undocumented Haitians were detained and 1,146 deported.
The immigration control regulatory body reported that of the people detained, 260 were in Greater Santo Domingo, 137 in Santiago de los Caballeros, 15 in Mao/Santiago Rodríguez, 44 in the East Zone, 27 in Azua (Los Pilones), 15 in Barahona, 29 in Puerto Plata, and 3 in Montecristi. In addition, 609 were detained by the Dominican Republic Army, 162 by the Cesfront, and 17 by the National Police. These institutions, along with other state security agencies, work in coordination with the DGM and comply with protocols respecting human rights and the dignity of persons.
Regarding deportees, 1,146 illegal Haitians were repatriated from the DGM’s undocumented detention centers and handed over to the immigration authorities of their country through the binational gates of Elías Piña (511 people), Dajabón (437), Jimaní (119) and Pedernales (79).
The operations were carried out in compliance with protocols that guarantee the rights and dignity of individuals, as well as respect and safety, particularly for women, the elderly, and minors.
In other news, the DGM reported that today a visit was made to the Friusa and Matamosquitos areas, led by the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, ERD, the Minister of the Interior and Police, Faride Raful, the Director General of the National Police, Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, PN, and Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, ARD, during which an evaluation was made of the operations carried out in that area, where more than 4,000 foreigners living illegally were interdicted, and spaces that they had illegally occupied were recovered. Additionally, the areas where the Ministry of Defense plans to build an interagency unit were inspected, where the institutions of the Armed Forces, state security agencies, including the DGM, and the Attorney General’s Office will be present.
