Santo Domingo. The General Directorate of Immigration has ordered an investigation into the incident between an immigration interdiction officer and a journalist, which occurred during an operation in Bávaro.
The immigration agent was referred to the DGM’s Internal Affairs Directorate for investigation in connection with the case in which he obstructed the work of journalist Juan Bautista Guerrero, who was covering the interdiction operations being carried out in the Bávaro area yesterday, Saturday, April 5.
During the incident, the officer complained to the journalist who was filming him while he was driving a Haitian national who had been arrested toward one of the agency’s vehicles. In an attempt to prevent the photo from being captured, he struggled with Junior Medina Lara, causing the officer to drop his cell phone and sustaining injuries that are currently unknown.
Vice Admiral Lee Ballester, Director General of Immigration, ordered an investigation into the case, and both the immigration agent and correspondent Medina Lara will be interviewed by Internal Affairs in order to present a report with any recommendations deemed relevant.
The Director of the DGM reiterated to all members of the institution that they must act in accordance with current legal regulations, respect human rights, and respect the dignity of individuals.
