The Director General of Migration says there are NGOs that lend themselves to defamation.

Punta Cana, La Altagracia. _ The Director General of Migration, Venancio Alcántara said that there are interested people and Non-Governmental Organizations that discredit the country when the institution complies with the law.

He pointed out that the DGM has done a great job in arresting illegal foreigners and sending them back to their country of origin, “we also interdict and deport those who walk the streets, we have done a great job in Higüey in this regard and there have been days in which we have taken more than 500 in a single day, because we do the work.”

He added that in other countries, foreigners who disrespect authority are arrested and deported, while in the Dominican Republic, the situation is the opposite: foreigners attack immigration agents, military personnel and police officers and do not obey the authorities.

When approached by journalists about the large number of illegal Haitians in Friusa, Bávaro, La Altagracia province, he stated that many cannot be detained because they are in private homes, and that unless the Public Prosecutor’s Office or a judge authorizes it, they cannot enter those homes, which is why they are detained in the streets.

Participating in the third international congress on Government Integrity and Regulatory Compliance, Alcántara clarified that the General Directorate of Migration only has control over foreigners who enter the nation through legal access points to the country.
