“It will not allow ‘macuteo’, “nor mafia structures” within the DGM

Santo Domingo. – The new Director General of Migration, Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester (ARD), emphasized that he will focus his administration on defending Dominican identity from “end to end, throughout the national territory and the islands that comprise it.”

In his first meeting with the immigration control staff of the DGM, he was forceful in telling the interdiction agents that they must be careful of the institutional image when they detain foreigners in an irregular condition and that they must not allow their colleagues to deviate from the ethical standards of the institution that he began to direct as of this Monday.

The vice admiral said that immigration agents must “inspire” respect in society with their actions in such an important task, because their work is under the attention of the world. He also urged them to carry out their operations firmly, but in compliance with the laws and human rights.

Regulation on the use of force.

The director of Migration announced the creation of a regulation and protocol for the days of detaining illegal migrants using proportional use of force. He pointed out that he will not allow “excesses” against foreigners.

Staff training and development.

Lee Ballester also reported that immigration control exercises and interdiction protocols will be updated and training and capacity building programs will be provided so that they can act with greater operational readiness and thus contribute to institutional strengthening.

During the meeting with immigration control personnel, he listened to the concerns of the members of that department and assured that he will review the operational capacities, collection centers, travel time and vehicle conditions and all measures that contribute to qualitative and quantitative improvement to make immigration interdiction operations more efficient.
